The meeting at the construction site was held today by the head of Krasnoyarsk Sergey Vereshchagin. The event was attended by the chairman of the City Council of Deputies Natalia Firyulina.
The building under construction is one of the iconic objects of the city's 400th anniversary preparation program. The building is now 42% ready. Welding work is underway inside, the formwork of the walls of the second floor and the brickwork of the partitions are being removed. The next stage is the installation of the roof.
"The monolithic works have already been completed. During the summer, facades and landscaping should be done, and outdoor networks should be installed. And then we will do the internal work. The finishing here is interesting, difficult, and requires a very meticulous approach," said Pavel Dolgikh, director of the contractor.
The building will have two above-ground floors and a basement, which will house a foyer, a temporary exhibition hall, a closed storage facility, a printing house and a cloakroom. The first level will house the main exhibition hall and lobby, while the second level will house a terrace, a cafe, a library, a media room, a workshop and a lecture hall. The highlight of the center will be a spiral staircase with three large lamps in the shape of birches – they are a reference to the trees planted by Vasily Surikov himself on the territory of the museum estate.
270 people will be able to visit the space at the same time.
"I've been following the construction since there was a excavation here," said Natalia Firyulina, chairman of the City Council of Deputies. – The pace of work is certainly impressive. A beautiful building is being built, and everything around it should be beautiful too."
The issue of improving the condition of the adjacent territory to the Surikov Center was discussed separately during the meeting. The head of Krasnoyarsk instructed to work out solutions on a number of points. Among them is the fate of the unused chimney of the boiler house, the facades of the surrounding houses and buildings.
In addition, Sergey Vereshchagin drew attention to the need to synchronize the work related to the unification of the Surikov Center and the estate museum into a single cultural and exhibition complex. The objects must be linked by an input group. It is planned to equip it in the existing enclosure of the museum.
"The Surikov Center project itself is also important from the point of view of preserving the heritage of our great countryman. It is not for nothing that it is being built next to the Vasily Ivanovich museum-estate. We also plan to reconstruct the museum for the anniversary of the city. Both facilities will become a single cultural and exhibition complex," said Sergey Vereshchagin. – After the completion of the construction of the Surikov Center, its equipment and the formation of the exposition will begin. There are plans to open the space for the 180th anniversary of the artist in January 2028. We hope that Vasily Ivanovich's large-scale works will become part of the first exhibition. We are negotiating with the Russian Museum on this issue."
