Evgeniy Mikhailovich Abalakov

Evgeny Mikhailovich was a creative person. In 1932, he graduated from the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov, was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, created a number of paintings and sculptures, most of which are devoted to mountaineering subjects. His most famous sculpture group is "The Mountaineer and the Mountaineer". It is installed at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Evgeny Mikhailovich, like his brother Vitaly, was an honored master of mountaineering (1934), climbed at least fifty peaks, conducted scientific research, studied and mapped the mountain ranges and glaciers of the Pamirs and Tien Shan. His comrades on mountain expeditions were always surprised when Evgeny carried with him, in addition to the equipment necessary for the hike, also tablets for drawings, watercolors and topography. E. M. Abalakov is the author of the textbook "Fundamentals of Mountaineering", translated into many languages of the world.

He made the first ascent to Stalin's peak (from 1962 to 1998 — the peak of Communism, now Ismail Samani peak) (Pamir, 1933) — he was one of the numerous members of the assault detachment of the Pamir—Tajik expedition in 1933, he managed to reach the peak - 7,495 m.

Both brothers are buried in Moscow.

In memory of the outstanding climbers, a street in Krasnoyarsk is named after them, a peak in the Pamirs, mountain peaks on the Tien Shan, there is the Abalakovskaya gap on the Communard, and the Abalakovsky Circus on Takmak were named after Evgeny Abalakov.

All-Russian rock climbing competitions are regularly held in Krasnoyarsk in memory of the Abalakov brothers.

The Abalakovsky style of rock climbing, recognized as reliable, has become the basis of world mountaineering.
