Bidding has begun for archaeological work at the construction site of the Surikov Center.

The Capital Construction Department has announced tenders for the implementation of a set of measures to ensure the safety of identified archaeological heritage sites. During the engineering surveys for the development of design estimates, 2 archaeological heritage sites were identified at the site. The first is the "Cultural stratum of the city of Krasnoyarsk of the XVIII – early 20th century. XX century.", and the second one is "Kaczynska Parking Lot". Archaeologists will have to preserve and save the identified objects (that is, examine the site for possible finds and extract them for preservation) so that the builders can begin the construction of the building. The initial cost of the auction is 10 million 238 thousand rubles, the results will be announced on March 13.

"The construction of the Surikov Center is scheduled to begin this year, so the archaeologists have a rather limited time to complete the work. The contractor must complete all the activities by the end of June. After that, builders will enter the site," said Sergey Shikunov, head of the Urban Planning Department.

The Surikov Center should become a unique cultural space that will combine a historical estate and a modern cultural center, and will become a landmark project of the 400th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk. ​It will be located at the intersection of Lenin Street and Kirov Street. The plots are in municipal ownership. Most of it is now a wasteland overgrown with grass. 

From the outside, the Surikov Center will resemble Vasily Ivanovich's chest, inherited from his great-grandfather, where the artist kept his sketches. For the decorative facade, aluminum cassettes will be used, straight and convex, which will alternate in a checkerboard pattern and have a different slope, creating the opportunity to give the facade the effect of colored brushstrokes by the artist. Another of the "features" of the Surikov Center will be the lobby. Three large lamps in the shape of birches will be installed in it – this is a reference to the trees planted by the artist. They are still growing on the territory of the museum-estate.
