​​​Work on the creation of the "Museum Quarter" in Krasnoyarsk will begin at the end of July.

For this purpose, the building of the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum (Paris Commune, 20) will be geographically combined with the mansion of the Gadalov family (Paris Commune, 22). The abandoned estate will become part of the modern museum and exhibition complex "Musey Kvartal" in the center of Krasnoyarsk and the heart of the city's artistic life.

Restoration work on the mansion will begin at the end of July. The project received a positive conclusion from the state expert examination.

"Having preserved the historical features of the facade of the building at the end of the 19th century, we have to adapt it as much as possible for modern use. An interior courtyard with a glass dome will be built here to store sculptures and monumental mosaics – this will be the first such experience for the region," said Pavel Gutenkov, head of the State Service for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The two-storey stone eclectic building is a cultural heritage site. At various times, it housed the provincial commissariat, the river shipping administration, and even a hospital. It's in a state of disrepair right now. The contractor will perform the work in several stages.

"First, we will dismantle the non-historical extension of the mansion. We will strengthen the foundation and supporting structures of the historical part of the building, and begin restoration. Then we will build a new room to replace the demolished one, install a glass dome. The last stage will be landscaping the surrounding area and planting trees," said Vyacheslav Kudruk, CEO of the contractor.

The reconstruction project provides modern exhibition halls for the permanent exhibition of works by artists of the XX century. They organize venues for temporary exhibitions from the funds of federal museums and works by contemporary authors.

The building will house a multimedia room for interactive exhibitions of animated paintings, as well as educational spaces. There will be an art workshop for master classes, a cozy cafe with a souvenir shop and a wardrobe. 

"This is a long-awaited project for the city and the region. Worthy exhibition spaces should appear in the homeland of Surikov, Ryauzov, and Pozdeev to showcase the rich collections of the region's leading art museum," said Anastasia Kistova, director of the Krasnoyarsk Surikov Art Museum.

In connection with the work, the monument to the children of war will have to be dismantled in the near future. In the fall, it will be temporarily moved to the Victory Memorial Museum square. 

"As soon as the implementation of the Museum Quarter project is completed, the monument will return here. He will slightly change his location on the square, but he will definitely return here, Krasnoyarsk residents should not worry about this," said Evgenia Yuryeva, Deputy mayor of the city and head of the Department of Social Development.

The Museum Quarter project is being implemented in preparation for the 400th anniversary of the regional center.  The work is scheduled to be completed by the city's anniversary in 2028.
